First-Ever Clay Center Block Party to Kick Off Summer on May 16
CHARLESTON, WV (April 3, 2026) – The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia is excited to announce its first-ever Clay Center Block Party, a family-friendly outdoor celebration taking place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Designed as a joyful kickoff to the summer season, the Block Party will feature activities both outdoors and indoors, transforming the entire block into a vibrant festival experience for all ages.
Outside in the front plaza, guests can explore an exciting lineup of:
Big trucks and other vehicles from community partners like the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority
Live music from Mark Davis from Vinyl Village
Hands-on activities like rocket launches, sidewalk painting, and bubbles
Inside the building, families will find:
Special games and interactive experiences designed to spark creativity and fun
In the Susan Runyan Maier Sculpture Garden, attendees can:
Take part in a unique art-making opportunity with steamroller printing
This inaugural event invites families and community members to come together for a day of creativity, connection, and play. With engaging activities across multiple spaces, the Block Party offers something for everyone while celebrating the spirit of community in an immersive, dynamic environment.
“This event is all about bringing people together,” said Zack Merritt, Director of Education & Visitor Experience at the Clay Center. “We’re thrilled to launch what we hope will become a beloved annual tradition for families across our region.”
