The Clay Center Announces Second Annual STEM Fest on November 14

CHARLESTON, WV (October 12, 2026) – The Clay Center invites families to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics during its second annual STEM Fest on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 11 AM to 4 PM.

STEM Fest will bring together families, local organizations, and professionals from a variety of STEM fields for a day of interactive learning, creative problem-solving, and discovery. Through hands-on activities and engaging demonstrations, guests will have opportunities to explore how STEM concepts are used in the real world and how today's curiosity can inspire tomorrow's innovations.

A highlight of this year's event will be a special appearance by Emily Calandrelli, who will present a 60-minute talk and demonstration beginning at 3 PM.

Throughout the day, guests can participate in hands-on engineering challenges in the Clay Center's makerspace, including a straw rocket design and launch challenge. This open-ended activity encourages participants to experiment with different designs, test their ideas, and discover the engineering design process through playful exploration.

STEM Fest also offers an opportunity for families to connect with professionals and organizations working across STEM disciplines, discover educational resources, and learn about the many pathways available in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The inaugural STEM Fest welcomed experts from fields including engineering, aerospace, and environmental protection, helping families explore future possibilities and see how they can contribute to solving real-world challenges. Building on that success, the Clay Center's second annual event aims to expand community engagement and inspire even more guests to discover the wonder of STEM.

“STEM learning is about more than understanding how things work—it's about asking questions, testing ideas, embracing creativity, and imagining what might be possible,” said Zack Merritt, Director of Education and Visitor Experience. “STEM Fest gives families an opportunity to explore together, connect with experts, and experience the excitement of discovery in a fun, welcoming environment.”

STEM Fest reflects the Clay Center's mission to inspire creativity and wonder in the arts and sciences for guests of all ages. By combining interactive experiences with opportunities for community connection, the event encourages visitors to become active participants in learning and exploration.

Families are invited to join the celebration on November 14 from 11 AM to 4 PM at the Clay Center in Charleston, West Virginia.
