Clay Center Board of Directors Names Rebecca Harman Gillispie, CPA, as Interim President & CEO

Charleston, WV (September 17, 2026) – The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia’s Board of Directors voted Thursday, September 17, to elect Rebecca Gillispie, CPA, as Interim President & CEO as the organization begins a national search for a permanent successor to the late Al Najjar.

Gillispie, who currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of the Clay Center, will provide leadership and oversight of the organization while the Board conducts a comprehensive national search to identify and appoint its next permanent President & CEO.

“Rebecca has been such an important part of the Clay Center’s leadership team, and we’re grateful that she is willing to step into this role during this important transition,” says Clay Center Board of Directors Chair Rob Aliff. “Her knowledge of the organization, commitment to the mission, and close working relationship with Al over the years provide valuable continuity to our community as we move forward.”

Gillispie has been a member of the Clay Center’s leadership team since 2003, overseeing the organization’s operational and financial management. Prior to joining the Clay Center, she served as Controller at Sunrise Museum. She graduated from West Virginia University, earning a BSBA with a concentration in accounting.
