NYC’s Renowned Dance Company, Ailey II, to Bring an Unforgettable Dance Performance to Charleston
CHARLESTON, WV (September 10, 2026) - The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia is proud to welcome Ailey II, the acclaimed second company of the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, to Charleston for a special one-night performance on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Dance and performing arts enthusiasts are invited to experience the power and artistry as the company brings its celebrated production to the live stage of the Maier Foundation Performance Hall. Ailey II brings together exceptional early-career dancers and innovative choreography to create an experience that is both powerful and inspiring for audiences of all backgrounds.
Ailey II, founded as the second company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, is renowned for its commitment to developing emerging talent through upcoming dancers and emerging choreographers. Through its performances and educational initiatives, Ailey II carries on Alvin Ailey’s legacy of using dance to establish cultural connection and community engagement.
As part of its current tour, Ailey II will make a stop at the Clay Center, giving audiences in Charleston the opportunity to experience the company’s immersive choreography and performance first-hand. This special engagement offers the Charleston community a chance to see one of the country’s leading dance companies in a live performance setting.
Tickets go on sale Friday, September 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM (EST) and can be purchased at theclaycenter.org. The performance will begin at 7:30 PM (EST) on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Clay Center. This event is presented with support by the Charles & Mary Fayne Glotfelty Foundation. The Clay Center’s performing and visual arts offerings are presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts.
