Sewing 101: Beginner Sewing Series
Always wanted to learn how to sew, or looking to refresh your sewing skills? Join us for a beginner-friendly sewing series designed to help you feel confident using a sewing machine while creating something you can take home.
Over four weeks, participants will learn the fundamentals of sewing, from machine setup and basic operation to pattern reading, fabric cutting, and simple construction techniques. Together, the class will complete their own envelope pillow project while building the skills needed to tackle future sewing projects at home.
This welcoming, hands-on class is perfect for beginners and anyone who may feel a little rusty with sewing. We encourage participants to bring their own sewing machine to become more confident in their machines.

About the Instructor: Sara Busse
Sara Busse worked in the news and public relations worlds for many years. A proud native of South Charleston, she learned to sew as a Girl Scout while attending Montrose Elementary School. Married to Bob, mom to John and Emma, she has spent years volunteering for her children’s schools, her church, for Read Aloud, the Clay Center, the YWCA, Second Avenue Community Center, and Trinity’s Table.
Sara is spending her retirement enjoying being a grandma, as a volunteer coordinator for her church’s feeding ministry, serving on various non-profit boards, and, of course, sewing.
