Illustrating Appalachia

This spring we will explore wild and wonderful landscape illustrations! You might recognize some of these West Virginia illustrators from their published posters or books. How do artists translate original artwork for broad distribution? This exhibition explores the work of contemporary regional landscape and nature artists to show how their paintings and drawings become cards, prints, and products for mass consumption. Creating souvenirs of fantastic terrains has a long history, and this display also includes several nineteenth-century landscape prints, demonstrating how artists have long felt called to document, describe, and examine our environment, and to share those scenes with a wide audience.
