Honoring the Collectors Club: 36 Years, 66 Works, Immeasurable Impact.
Thirty-six years ago, a group of dedicated Sunrise Museums patrons in Charleston were determined to figure out how the fledgling organization could acquire original artwork. This circle of art lovers developed the Collectors Club to contribute funds specifically to buy art for the Museum.
Founded in 1986, the Club has continued to acquire works for the museum through its move to the Clay Center and the Juliet Art Museum. Since its inception, the Club contributed more than $500,000 for the purchase of 66 works of art for the Permanent Collection. Members also gave great support to educational programming that benefited a wide variety of Center audiences. In addition to their affinity for collecting pieces for the Center, the Club also participated in annual trips to tour museums, galleries, artist studios and other fine art institutions. The Clay Center has been extremely fortunate to have the invaluable support of the Collectors Club, whose contributions have strengthened the Juliet Art Museum’s Permanent Collection, and the visual arts landscape in Charleston, WV, with works by Picasso, Lichtenstein, David, Stella, Thiebaud, Hopper, and many more.
