NASA Mars Lander Mission Viewing Party

November 26, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

NASA Mars Lander Mission Viewing Party
Monday, November 26th
2:00 – 4:00PM / Landing approximately 3:00PM

As NASA’s Mars InSight Lander makes its nail-biting descent to the surface of the red planet on November 26th, the Green Bank Telescope will be watching!

InSight, short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy, and Heat Transport, will give the Red Planet its first thorough checkup since it formed nearly 4.5 billion years ago.  Using cutting edge instruments, the Lander will delve deep beneath the surface and seek the fingerprints of the processes that formed Mars.  InSight will measure the planet’s “vital signs”: its “pulse” (seismology), “temperature” (heat flow), and “reflexes” (precision tracking). NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) will use the Green Bank Telescope (GBT) to directly intercept and track the signal from InSight during the Lander’s Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) to the Martian surface.

The event is free, but space is limited, so call 304-561-3570 or visit https://bit.ly/2DtB9ki to register today!
