Join us for our fun-filled special event days throughout the year. Each day is full of family entertainment with themed science and art activities taking place throughout the day in addition to our three floors of art and science exhibits.  All special family event day activities are included in the price of admission (which is free for members), exceptions are noted in descriptions.

Saturday, March 28
11 am – 4 pm
Hop on over to the Clay Center for a day filled with egg-citing family fun! Enjoy egg hunts, egg dyeing, egg relay races, and even a (kind of messy) egg toss. Make your own adorable set of bunny ears and much more. You can also meet our special guest for the day – The Easter Bunny!
  Eco Afternoon!
Wednesday, April 22 & Friday, April 24
3 – 6:30 pm
Celebrate Earth Day with two afternoons of nature exploration!  Get an up close look at plants and animals at our Discovery Tables, create your own patchwork pot and explore the sights, sounds, smells and textures of our Education Gardens!

Come visit with Kevin Dials from Kanawha State Forest to learn about all the outdoor adventures awaiting this spring and summer in the beautiful State forest just fifteen minutes from downtown.  You can also get an up close look at beautiful butterflies from the Butterfly Lady, Heather Tolka or take a look at pesky insects invading our forests in our new exhibit Bugging Out: A Closer Look at Invasive Species.  This new interactive exhibit is invading Earth City and is made possible through a partnership with the USDA and WVDA and a Farm Bill grant.

You will meet live critters at our animal discovery table!  Explore our discovery touch table where you can find out answers to lots of crazy nature questions.  Is a tree cookie something you eat?  What is a whirly gig and what plant produces them?  Can a turtle leave its shell?

Stop by our eco-crafts to make a patchwork pot for starting spring herbs or to create a nature print!  If the rain and wind stay away, most of these activities will take place outside in our Sculpture Garden just behind Earth City.
  Fairy Tales & Fables
Saturday, May 30
11 am – 4 pm
Celebrate storytelling and meet literary and movie screen favorites including Cinderella, Pocahontas, Alice and the Snow Queen! Enjoy tea cup relays, a swashbuckling scavenger hunt and hear your favorite tales come to life with a character narrated story time. Come dressed as your favorite story character!
  Space Out Saturday
Saturday, June 20
11 am – 4 pm
It's out-of-this-world fun as you explore the cosmos! Walk through the solar system, learn about the planets and Sun, design a rocket and check out our water rocket launches throughout the afternoon. You can also make your own constellations and check out some special science demos as we make comets! Top it all off with a visit to our new Digital Dome for a journey through the universe.
