Enjoy live music and stories in a Lunchtime Lecture with Robin Kessinger
(Charleston, W.Va.) 5/30/08 –Appalachian history and music fans will have the chance to hear live tunes and entertaining stories as renowned fiddler Jenny Allinder interviews one of the country’s leading flatpick guitarists Robin Kessinger. This free Lunchtime Lecture will take place in the Clay Center’s art gallery on Wednesday, June 11 at 12:15 p.m.
A National Flatpicking Championship winner, Robin Kessinger grew up with a rich Appalachian heritage, surrounded by generations of musicians. His father, Bob Kessinger, was an accomplished mandolin player, and his uncle, Clark Kessinger, is a world-renowned fiddler and recording artist. With a strong passion for Appalachian music, Robin has dedicated himself to passing on his heritage to others and preserving the music that plays such a large role in American history.
As part of the Clay Center’s brand new Clay Community Arts program, Robin will teach beginning guitar classes in Mason and Lincoln counties this fall. Clay Community Arts was created with the mission to enhance the quality of life by providing community-based educational opportunities in the arts and sciences throughout the state.
This Lunchtime Lecture series takes place the second Wednesday of each month and is free and open to the public. Each 45-50 minute program features a community presenter with an exciting new topic.
Also on June 11, ages 55 and up can take advantage of the Clay Center’s new Senior Days offer. Seniors will receive special admission rates on these days to explore the galleries, experience the thrill of a giant screen film or journey into outer space with a Clay Center exclusive planetarium show. Prices on Senior Days, which take place the second Wednesday of each month, are $4 for gallery admission, $2 for planetarium shows and $3 for film admission.
