Enjoy live entertainment, great activities and delicious treats at Clay Center’s Summer Fun Day
Event includes free gallery admission, performances and activities
(Charleston, W.Va.) 7/3/08 – Discover all that the Clay Center and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra have to offer with a free day of fun at Summer Fun Day. With live performances by local entertainers, fantastic food from area restaurants and hands-on activities, this annual favorite promises excitement for all ages.
Summer Fun Day, a celebration of the Clay Center’s 5th anniversary, is Sunday, July 13 from noon to 5 p.m. During this time, families can explore the Clay Center’s Avampato Discovery Museum, enjoy free activities and games, register for prizes and stop by the gift shop for a free gift.
Live entertainment will take place inside the performance hall and outside on the plaza with clowns, a magician and a caricature artist. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., the Second Avenue drum ensembles Steel Drummin’ and Cool Jammers will perform. Then, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., local band the Voodoo Katz will hit the stage.
Families can also catch a giant screen film or planetarium show in the ElectricSky™ Theater. At noon and 2 p.m., gaze at the nighttime sky with planetarium show “Summer Skies.” Journey through the rainforests of the sea with giant screen film “Coral Reef Adventure,” showing at 1, 3 and 4 p.m. Seating is limited – check with the box office that day for availability.
In the art gallery, guests can check out the Clay Center’s latest exhibition, “The Best of Photography and Film from the George Eastman House Collection” and “PHOTO/REALISM: From the Permanent Collection.”
Throughout the afternoon, area restaurants will have booths set up on the Center’s back patio for guests to purchase food.
This event is the Clay Center’s gift to the community for its continued support. Summer Fun Day is sponsored by BB&T, Charleston Area Medical Center, the Deborah Carper Community Gift Fund and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #466.
