Earth Day family fun day returns to the Clay Center April 24
(Charleston, W.Va.) 4/13/10 – Celebrate the earth, and learn how to make it a better place with a day of hands-on excitement at the Clay Center’s third annual Earth Day family fun day. The event takes place Saturday, April 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The schedule of activities will include:
- Earth fair – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.*
- Live snakes – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.*
- Live birds of prey – noon to 3 p.m.*
- Live animal meet-and-greet – noon to 4 p.m.
- Milton’s Marvels demo: Web of Life – 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
- Earth-friendly story time – 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
*Free and open to the public
The day will also include recycling crafts, interactive displays and environmental booths where children can decorate tree cookies, plant hair-like grass in their very own “dirt head,” and more. Guests will be given the opportunity to learn easy ways to be ecologically conscious in their everyday lives and how to get involved with helping their local community.
Area businesses and organizations have partnered with the Clay Center to present earth-friendly projects and demonstrations. Participants include Project Learning Tree – the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, the Kanawha Valley Connections Sustainability Fair, the WV Department of Environmental Protection – Project WET, the WV Conservation Agency Watershed Resource Center, WV Division of Energy, WV Native Plant Society, West Virginia DEP – Division of Air Quality, WV Raptor Rehabilitation Center, WV DNR Wildlife Resources Section (Wildlife Diversity Program) and Brooks Bird Club – Handlan Chapter. Activities will include interactive displays such as groundwater flow and watershed models, water Jeopardy and live birds of prey.
