Clay Center’s summer program offers hands-on activities for kids
(Charleston, W.Va.) 6/15/10 – Children of all ages can dive into hands-on fun with the Clay Center’s Summer Discovery Camps. Each camp provides a unique, interactive educational experience. Topics include old favorites like filmmaking as well as some new programs for art and science enthusiasts.
The schedule includes:
• Vet Camp, July 6 – 9, 10 a.m. – noon or 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., grades K – 3, $45 for members and $55 for non-members, registration deadline – June 29: The morning session is sold out. Waiting list is available.
• Filmmaking Returns, July 12 – 16, 10 a.m. – noon, grades 3 – 7, $55 for members and $65 for non-members, registration deadline – July 5: This camp is sold out. Waiting list is available.
• Perform Like a Pro, July 19 – 23, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., grades 3 – 7, $55 for members, $65 for non-members, registration deadline – July 12: Want to develop a knack for the dramatic? Come learn how to perform through fun games and activities, and even create a script to be acted out in a real performance on the last day of this camp led by a real actress!
• Science Fair Camp, July 20 – 23, 10 a.m. – noon, grades 5 – 8, $45 for members, $55 for non-members, registration deadline – July 13: Complete a scientific investigation from start to finish in this camp and present your findings on the last day. Learn how research scientists discover a problem and work to solve it through experimentation.
• Wet and Wild Camp, July 27 – 30, 10 a.m. – noon, grades 1 – 4, $45 for members, $55 for non-members, registration deadline – July 20: There’s no better time than summer to investigate all the cool things about water and liquids. In this camp, we will explore bubbles, floating & sinking, sandcastles, and more!
• Adventures in Art I & II, August 3 – 6, 10 a.m. – noon for children in grades K – 2, 1p.m. – 3p.m. for children in grades 3 – 6, $45 for members, $55 for non-members, registration deadline – July 27: Dive into a week of experimenting with all kinds of art forms in this creative art camp led by Kanawha County art instructor, Christi Carrier.
Pre-registration for each camp is required, and space is limited. Grades for children indicate the grade they will be entering in the fall of 2010. Camps are filling quickly, so call 304-561-3508 now to register.
